A Couple of Your PE/Health Resources

Hello PE/Health Teachers!
As we embark on another school year, we are hopefully recharged and excited about getting back into the classroom to teach our students PE and Health! I have had a unique opportunity to return to the classroom after a year as a university professor teaching PE/Health majors. I am looking forward to meeting all of my eighth-grade students that I will be teaching this school year. I see my role on the team as a PE/Health teacher at our school as especially vital; our middle school is implementing two new policies this year that are new to students and teachers. The two policies include no talking during passing periods and require students to walk in single-file lines while moving between classes. With this in mind, I know that PE will be a class where students can release their energy and likely some frustrations, as they adjust to having no cognitive break to socialize in between classes. I have been preparing for my classes as the summer break winds down, with a mindset to create movement and lots of social engagement opportunities for my students. I have found some good resources on the internet; there are so many excellent, free resources available to us. Some resources do require you to register, and some do require fees. I wanted to highlight a couple I use that you may want to look at when preparing lessons for your classes. If you are a SHAPE America member, you can register with Sportsed TV for no additional charge. SHAPE America has teamed up with Sportsed TV to provide members with free access to thousands of expert-led instructional videos and educational articles spanning multiple sports and physical education disciplines. If you are not a member of SHAPE America, I would encourage you to join now, and also please join OR SHAPE (we need your support and do offer you yet another resource for you!). Additionally, I will use “this or that” questions when I take attendance during the first two weeks while I am learning my students’ names; I get to start the conversation with my students instead of the preverbal “here” response when taking roll. I have found many “this or that’ questions online, or you can make up your own.
We would love to hear about one or two resources you use in your classroom as a PE/Health instructor.
Thank you and have a wonderful school year!
